Description

The Office of Human Subjects Research Protections (OHSRP) is seeking renewal of the Huron contract needed for the support and maintenance of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Intramural Research Program‘s (IRP’s) electronic IRB system and API which is currently in use.

The OHSRP PROTECT system is used by the entire NIH intramural research community and external partners for reasons that include but are not limited to submitting initial protocol reviews, modifications, and continuing reviews to the NIH IRB for review and approval, submitting mandatory documents to the Scientific Review Committee, Radiation Safety Committee, and receiving approval from the NIH Ethics Office, Institutional Biosafety Committee, and the Clinical Center Pharmacy to ensure that all research involving human subjects is carried out uniformly in accordance with NIH policies, HHS and FDA regulations. OHSRP also worked with Huron to create a custom API to ensure protocol data required for patient care in the clinical center would be received by their systems. This is critical to the function of the NIH.
