System for Award Management (SAM)

A SAM registration is required for any entity to bid on and get paid for federal contracts or to receive federal funds. These include for-profit businesses, nonprofits, government contractors, government subcontractors, state governments, and local municipalities. The SAM registration is valid for one year from the date the registration is complete and must be renewed before 60 days of expiration to avoid potential penalties.

Here are some reasons to start a SAM registration:
  • You are a business in the private sector wanting to do business with the federal government
  • You are a nonprofit and need an active SAM registration for grant applications
  • You need an UEI number, CAGE code, and/or MPIN for a SAM registration
  • You are a local or state government entity/agency or school/university and receive federal assistance
  • You want to become eligible for bidding on FEMA contracts
  • You are a subcontractor under a prime contractor and are mandated to be registered and certified by your Authorized Contracting Officer (ACO)
Understanding the Basics

sam.gov

Sam.gov - This government site is maintained by the General Services Administration (GSA) and is used to register a business with the U.S. government, update or renew an entity registration, check status of an entity registration, and to search for registration and exclusion records. The government will not help with SAM registrations or help a business do federal contracting.

grants.gov

Grants.gov - A grant is a way the government funds ideas and projects to provide public services and stimulate the economy. Grants support critical recovery initiatives, innovative research, and many other programs listed in the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA). Grants.gov is used to find grant and cooperative agreement opportunities from federal agencies that award grants.

USFCR SAM Registration

US Federal Contractor Registration (USFCR) is the original and most trusted SAM assistance company. USFCR has completed over 300,000 compliant SAM registrations for our clients during our 13 years in business. We also provide set-aside registrations and certifications, including women-owned, veteran-owned, HUBZone, 8(a) Business Development Program, and other federal contracting services, and technology.

USFCR SAM Registration Benefits

A SAM registration is required to work as a federal contractor or subcontractor, and for nonprofits to receive grants. The registration process can be confusing, time consuming, and frustrating, even though it is the first step to working with the U.S. government. For this reason, and because USFCR provides additional value to the SAM registration process, many tens of thousands of businesses and nonprofit entities use our registration services.

These benefits include:
  • SAM Compliance - We facilitate the SAM Registration process to be active and compliant in a timely manner.
  • Case Manager Support (Phone and Email) - For the year of your SAM registration with USFCR, you can call or email a case manager to get answers to registration, set-aside certification, or federal contracting questions.
  • Registration and Regulation Maintenance - We monitor your registration and the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) to maintain SAM compliance.
  • USFCR Verified Vendor Seal - This seal, which you are authorized to use as a USFCR Verified Vendor is recognized by contracting officers and prime contractors.
  • Government DSBS Profile - A profile in the Dynamic Small Business Search (DSBS) is included with a USFCR SAM registration. The DSBS is where contracting officers search for contracting businesses.
  • SBA Set-Aside Program Qualifications - Small Business Administration (SBA) set-asides are additional federal certifications that help small businesses get up to 23% of all federal contracts. These include women-owned, veteran-owned, HUBZone, and 8(a) Business Development Program.
